Background of the Organisation

Nkazi Stimulation Centre is based in the South Service area of eThekwini district. The centre was established as a response to a cry of parents of disabled children who were unable to get children with severe disabilities enrolled in crèches, Day Care Centre’s or schools.

It is the only facility of its kind in the eThekwini district which render Rehabilitation & stimulation services of this type and that does not discriminate on the basis of the type or degree of disability and being run by an Occupational therapist.

Nkazi Stimulation Centre
As a result, we welcome individuals with multiple disabilities and those deemed severe, many of whom would be denied acceptance at other educational facilities including day care centres.

Nkazi stimulation centre is run by an Occupational therapist with over 20 years of working with persons with disabilities as a therapist and also a former manager in Disability & Rehabilitation services of eThekwini health district.

The centre provides Occupational therapy, rehabilitation & educational services to children at risk of developing disabilities and those with disabilities.
Having opened its doors in May 2015; it has seen a record of more than 80 children who attend week-day stimulation programmes as well as Saturdays designed to meet their special needs and interests.

The centre strives to foster, promote, encourage, advance and develop therapy & educational services for children with all types of disabilities. Our services are aimed at developing a firm foundation for disabled children by early stimulation, offering physical rehabilitation, cognitive rehabilitation, psychosocial rehabilitation and teaching of life skills to enable disabled children to be integrated into the community and lead independent lives with their disabilities.

Nkazi Stimulation Centre takes pride in undertaking projects that are cost effective and that maximize the financial contributions of our funders. We provide a safe and supportive environment which is conducive for the type of learners we admit.

The Centre offers a curriculum that is adapted to meet the needs of learners, while taking into consideration the Department of Education’s CAPS, DCAPS, and SID curricula.

Our motor is that

“Every child can learn given an opportunity”
